Believe in Jesus and you will be free!

      John 8: 36

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed”

The definition of freedom is the state of not being imprisoned or enslaved. Through the grace of God we receive salvation and through salvation “you will be free indeed”. What must be clarified is that the grace of God does not overlook sin but it empowers righteous living and allows us to be more like Jesus. In this article the freedom that the Son gives us will be discussed and the way we can accept this freedom.

      How are we set free?

The first question is how you will be free? In the Old Testament only the high priest was allowed to experience Gods presence once a year in the holy of holies. If his heart was not right with God then he would die. The reason why he went into such a dangerous setting once a year was to make atonement for the sins of Israel by providing a blood sacrifice (Hebrews 9:7). When Jesus died for us when he was crucified he became the sacrifice for everyone’s sins that are in the past and in the future (Galatians 3:13). By doing this the veil that separated Gods presence from the rest of the people was torn (Matthew 27:51) by doing this anyone can have access to the presence of God anytime and anyplace. “Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom” 2 Corinthians 3:17.

      There is an action required!

In order to have this freedom that Jesus the son can give us we need to accept Jesus and “confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord” Romans 10:9 . There is an action that is required in order for us to receive the salvation from Jesus Christ. This is why in John 8:36 it says (“If the Son sets you free“). That “if” is not based on Jesus actions because he has given his life for all humanity but we also have freedom of choice not to confess That Jesus is in control and take our freedom into our own hands thereby we are liable for the consequences

      Are we truly FREED?

The second question is what is this true freedom? This question is answered Romans 8:2 “through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death”. This freedom is not just that we can make our own decisions but that through his sacrifice we are set free from sin and death. Now does this allow us to sin freely without any consequences? The answer to this is a big NO. Hebrews 10:26 answers this question perfectly “If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice is left“ We cannot deliberately go and sin once we have learned that it is wrong. We gain knowledge and faith by reading the bible constantly   (Psalm 119:9)
What is also important to remember is that nothing anyone has done can keep them away from the love that Jesus Christ has for them (Romans 8:31-39). Let us confess with our mouth that he is our Lord. By allowing Jesus access into our lives and giving Him control, you will be freed.
